A new report by E.on, the German energy giant, shows that solar power generation capacity in Germany since the beginning of 2020 has exceeded that of 2019. According to the report, since the beginning of this year, Germany's solar power generation has reached 43 billion kWh, 1 billion kWh more than the sum of last year's total solar power generation. Based in Essen, Germany, E-on is one of the largest suppliers of electricity and natural gas in Germany and Europe.

In addition to solar power generation, Germany's overall green power output will also set a record, the report said. Since January this year, wind, solar, biomass, hydropower and other renewable energy sources have provided 195 billion kWh of electricity, an increase of 4% compared with the same period last year.

From a mathematical point of view only, the solar energy generated so far this year can meet nearly twice the annual electricity demand of all private households in Germany, the report said. But the biggest consumer of electricity is still industrial sector. According to the Fraunhofer Institute of solar energy systems (ISE), this year will be a record year for renewable energy: from the beginning of the year to October 22, wind, solar, biomass and hydropower plants together generated 52.5% of the public net output. Last year, the share of green power was 46%.
