● according to the survey of American Solar Engineering and Manufacturing Association (SEMA), the annual output of photovoltaic modules in the United States in 2021 is slightly less than 8GW.
● through the US photovoltaic manufacturing act and other policy support, it will help to expand the capacity of the US photovoltaic module industry to 30GW by 2025.
SEMA said that the U.S. photovoltaic module industry will create 18000 direct and 60000 indirect manufacturing jobs.
The Association recently sent a letter to U.S. President Biden, requesting to formulate policies and provide solutions to enable the long-term development of the domestic photovoltaic manufacturing industry, and called for the passage of the American photovoltaic manufacturing act and other policy support.
SEMA estimates that by 2025, incentives based on deployment and manufacturing tax credits can help the U.S. photovoltaic module industry increase its annual capacity to 30GW, which will also bring a lot of jobs in the field of renewable energy. SEMA said that the U.S. photovoltaic module industry will create 18000 direct and 60000 indirect jobs.
The letter said, "SEMA members also plan to establish a localized photovoltaic manufacturing supply chain, which can meet the demand through domestic photovoltaic modules. By 2030, the photovoltaic supply chain will create about 30000 direct manufacturing jobs and more than 100000 indirect jobs."
In his speech, U.S. President Biden asked the U.S. Congress to pass the "reconstruction better act". He also stressed the clean energy incentives in the bill. Due to strong opposition from some senators, the approval of the bill stalled in the Senate. This is mainly due to the strong opposition of senators Joe Manchin and kyrsten sinema to the bill. The draft legislation involves tax incentives for household photovoltaic, incentives for large-scale projects, refundable options and new tax credits for domestic photovoltaic manufacturing.
At present, the annual capacity of photovoltaic modules in the United States is less than 8GW. As far as photovoltaic cells are concerned, the United States is completely dependent on imports. SEMA believes that it is inevitable to pass the SEMA act and obtain other policy support for increasing the capacity of 30GW.
The U.S. photovoltaic module manufacturing industry is facing pressure from photovoltaic developers and installers. They believe that the high cost of domestic modules will become a major obstacle to the growth of photovoltaic market compared with imported products.
