South Korea Added 1GW of Solar Capacity in the First Quarter of 2021

Release date:2021-08-04 Source:Raytech Pageviews:-

South Korea added 1.017GW of solar systems in the first three months of 2021, according to the latest statistics released by the country's energy agency.

In Korea, solar capacity has increased by 1GW per quarter since 2020, which, while growing, is still insufficient to meet the government's target of 20% renewable energy generation by 2030.

According to climate solutions and a new study by the Korea Institute of Advanced Science and Technology, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the target of renewable energy, which accounts for 20% of total electricity generation, must be raised to 40% by 2030, and the capacity of renewable energy needs to be increased sevenfold.

In 2020, South Korea will install a solar capacity of 4126MW. This figure is higher than the 3.8GW in 2019 and 2.4GW in 2018. It also makes 2020 the most successful year on record in the country. If the first-quarter growth trend is maintained for the rest of the year, South Korea could reach and exceed installed capacity levels by 2020.

At the end of March, the country's cumulative solar installed capacity reached about 15.5GW.
