The City of Vienna has launched an initiative to develop solar energy. From June 1st, solar systems on house roofs will be subsidized, to increase the city's solar production fivefold by 2025.

Through this solar strategy, the city will rely on large areas used as solar power plants and private homes that should green roofs and use solar energy at the same time. The implementation deadline is one year from the award of funds.

With further development by 2030, solar energy will generate 10% of the electricity needed. It is calculated that this could provide solar energy to 530,000 Vienna residents. As a first step, a new aid system is being implemented for the Vienna solar subsidy. The maximum amount of funding is 180,000 euros.

According to the city council, the Vienna Green Power Fund is about 2 million euros. The subsidy will mainly affect property developers who build new homes. House roofs that have been built can also apply for the fund. Solar systems can be integrated into two-thirds of all Vienna roofs.
