A Swiss Energy Supplier Now Operates a 100MW Battery Storage System

Swiss energy supplier Axpo has announced that it has acquired and taken over a 1.25MW battery storage system owned by Rhienergye AG, a German power supplier based in the Swiss canton of Graubinden, foreign media reported. The company is expanding its grid-scale energy storage business.

Axpo has extensive experience in managing hydroelectric facilities as energy storage systems and applies this experience to battery storage systems. This is not the first large battery storage system operated by the company. Axpo operates a 2MW battery storage system in 2019 in the city of Rappersville-Jonah, St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Late last year, Axpo announced the deployment of a 6.25MW battery storage system in the Rathausen area of Lucerne. Besides, Switzerland's largest indoor battery storage system facility opened in the city of Albion in February this year.

Since 2020, Axpo has acquired a 30MW battery storage system operated in Yllikk?l?, Finland, 2020. Overall, the company has nearly 100MW of installed capacity for battery storage systems owned and operated in Europe.
