Accelerate the deployment of renewable energy. Tunisia plans to build 3.8gw photovoltaic system by 2030!

Release date:2022-03-02 Source:Raytech Pageviews:-

According to foreign media reports, the Tunisian government said recently that it has set a goal to increase the share of photovoltaic power generation in the country's power structure. By 2030, the country will develop photovoltaic systems with an installed capacity of 3.8gw.

Neila nouira gongi, Minister of industry, energy and mining of Tunisia, announced the photovoltaic strategy formulated by the country at a renewable energy development seminar recently. The Tunisian government has made clear the goal of accelerating the diversification of power structure and developing 3.8gw photovoltaic system for its power grid by 2030.

Tunisia's power generation mainly comes from thermal power plants and natural gas power plants. According to the Tunisian National Energy Administration (anme), Tunisia's renewable energy power generation has not exceeded 3% of its total power generation.

Gongi said that due to the decline of natural gas power generation by nearly 36% from 2010 to 2018, the heavy dependence on fossil fuel poses a serious threat to the safety of power generation. This situation has not changed much since 2018, except for the trial operation of a 10MW photovoltaic project.

He said that the strategy of developing 3.8gw photovoltaic system will increase the share of renewable power in Tunisia's power structure by 30%. The implementation of this national strategy will depend on the realization of power structural reform. He also announced the establishment of a power sector regulator and the publication of journals on renewable energy.

This strategy of the Tunisian government is in line with the objectives of the country's photovoltaic program (TSP). The plan was launched after the signing of the Paris climate agreement in 2015. With the support of the photovoltaic program (TSP), Tunisia launched a bidding for a 1.1gw photovoltaic project
